Frequently Asked Questions
General Questions
What is a doula?
A doula is a non medically trained (in some cases) support person there to help ease a person or family through the pregnancy and postpartum experience. They can provide weekly, overnight or daytime support.
What is the difference between a night nurse and a doula?
The two can be tangential. However, night nurses typically are responsible for feedings and supporting a family in overnight visits.
Do you only attend home births?
Each doula has their own specific parameters. I however do NOT only attend home births. I am fine with accompanying people to a hospital/birthing center, etc. as long as I’m respected.
Do you work with any specific midwives / birthing centers?
I have tons of recommendations based on my own personal experiences and experiences clients have had and am so open to sharing all the resources once we establish a commitment.
Is your contract legally binding?
It is and protects both me and you from any unforeseen occurrences, life changes, etc.
Supporting Specific Client Needs
What if I don’t want massages as part of my package?
Then I would adjust the investment price based on that.
Can my partner receive some of my massages as well?
Depending on what offering you choose your massage is transferrable to anyone in your immediate family and/or additional caretakers of baby at your discretion.
What if I have other children are they included in your offering?
I come prepared to work with the WHOLE family however if additional hours are needed to make sure the other child/children are being well accommodated that’s something we can discuss before any initial payments are made.
Does my time roll over if I don’t use it week to week or month to month?
Absolutely and I have a system in place to keep track of hours and massages used and unused.
What Happens Afterwards
Do we never hear from you again once or time is up?
Definitely NOT! I like to believe I become a part of whatever family I join and they become a part of me so it’s a forever connection!
Do you offer childcare services once the contract is up?
Case by case and depending on my schedule yes.
What if I want to extend my time with you?
At the end of our agreed time together we’ll assess together what you feel is still needed/wanted and if I’m capable of staying on for additional time I’m ABSOLUTELY open to it!
Payments
What if I can’t afford a doula?
As more initiatives are being proposed, some insurance companies are now covering prenatal doula services and also allowing FSA to cover them. However if a doula is not something in your immediate budget there are quite a few options available. Starting a doula fund and listing it on your registry is a great way to have friends & family contribute. Speak to your desired doula about payment arrangements (which I do offer) and/or scholarships. Reaching out to a local doula training school and asking if they have any student doulas looking to complete hourly requirements is also an option.
How do payment plans work?
I offer (3) options:
Upfront paid in full, which I find to be helpful for families who are already trying to balance so many other things with the arrival of a new baby. It reduces the stress of keeping tabs on money owed.
A deposit of half the total investment upfront in order to secure a space on my calendar (as I am very intentional about allotting my time to each family). Then the remaining balance to be paid two weeks before the end of our commitment.
A deposit of half upfront, and then the remaining balance paid over the course of our commitment. This is to secure a space in my calendar but also give you the flexibility to pay over time.
What form of payments do you accept?
All digital forms of payment:
Zelle
Venmo
PayPal
